Update From the Best Blog Team

Hello everyone! It’s been a couple of weeks since I posted last and I thought I’d give you guys and gals an update. Ken is still behind the great firewall of China, Lily’s going to be taking some time a bit of down time and I’m dealing with college.

Which brings me to a few other things. We here at Best Blogs get email literally every week requesting to be on the blog. Some of it is very nice while some of the emails are down right scary!

If we haven’t written about you on the blog, please do not panic. Ken’s a cool person in China, Lily’s a very energetic woman and I for goodness sakes am only a college student so if we don’t get to your blog then it’s probably because I’m doing my homework and or Lily’s drinking coffee.

I’m busy doing my 9rules thing and I enjoy stepping back every once and a while to write about blogging and life here on the blog.

If you’re interested in being part of the team (we can always use help) don’t be afraid to shoot us over an email. And I’ll try to get some posts up this week after my midterms. That’s all for now!

I think you guys are doing a great job. I haven’t had the time to read all the blogs you guys talk about so I can imagine your workload on reviewing blogs.
    Keep up the good work!

That’s such a kind shout-out, learn SEO. There’s something very rewarding about looking for the blogs that don’t make the ubiquitous top-ten list, but are really worth noting. As labors of love go, this one has been a true pleasure.

Hey guys, am I missing something? I have a question though about is there any chance to keep the same full domain for example like my domain on wordpress, while moving it and hosting it in Yahoo for example?

  4. 4 pobiznews 25 October, 2006 at 9:23 pm

Sorry, to be more specific – let’s say I have got a domain with 7/10 page rank — is it because of that I am building it here and it takes the word wordpress in its domain?

If so, could I keep it as is while hosting it elsewhere?

Second – if it’s pobiznews.wordpress.com here, and then I changed it into another domain taking wordpress off does this affect anything in its ranking?

    Thank you guys.

Hello Pobiznews, This is the sort of question that’s best directed to the smart and helpful folks over at the wordpress forums. Before you post your question on the forums, be sure you do a search for your question — it’s often already been answered. Good luck to you!

Ack I’m getting to the emails! College net connection is slow for some reason and midterms. Later! 🙂

“Some of it is very nice while some of the emails are down right scary!”

Scary ? Would you care to elaborate ?

I remember sending a pretty insane email a long time ago.

I’m curious, was it me you were talking about ?

Hahahahah sorry if I made you piss your pants.

I’m not really insane, it’s just my unique way of getting my message across.

    By the way.

We’re are literally both the same type of blogs, oh Best Blog On WordPress.

But mine is so much more evil. 🙂

Here’s my thought about how to get your site looked at:

Charm is an underrated but crucial trait. One way to get what you want in the world is to present yourself in a way that makes people like you, and want to know you better. In the blogging community, that means, if you’re charming or interesting or kind or helpful, other bloggers and readers will want to know more about you. So, for starters, that’s the tone you might want to try out on sites like this, if you want other readers to take a look at your work.

To you Nicevil, I’d say that Scary is much, much scarier than you are! And please remember, people who think they’re being referred to in a negative way are usually wrong.

Hello Tekoda — Imagine that an eleven year old boy is reading this blog — he thinks blogging is cool and wants to see what the grownups are all about. He clicks on the link on the WordPress front page and what does he find? Your comment. Now, if you had to re-write your comment with the general readership of this particular blog in mind, wouldn’t you be a little more, well, careful about how you put things? It doesn’t, to be honest, make me want to look at your blog. Know your audience, is my advice to you.

    To bloglily :

I meant that the email I sent was scary. Not me.

People who think they’re being referred to in a negative way are usually wrong ?

Isn’t that what you say to little kids who suffer from low self esteem and oversensitivity ? (ouch!)

The truth is, everyone notices the imperfections much much more than the little good things about ourselves.

Proof ? The amount of makeup in a girl’s handbag.

    Ohhhhhhhh god.

I sense that lawyer fighting instinct pumping up. 🙂

  11. 11 bloglily 30 October, 2006 at 10:13 am

My dear Nicevil, Down, down. I didn’t mean to mommy you. It’s an occupational hazard of having three wild children. I spend a lot of time telling them things like that, except in their case, it’s quite likely that their brother is indeed saying something mean about them behind their back. But not here. We LIKE you.

And your site. And all that’s in my handbag is lipstick, a lot of candy wrappers and a stale energy bar.

    xo, BL

Whoa there! I’m almost done with my super annoying academic paper! What’s happening?

Oh niceevil maybe that was you. I’m looking at your flickr account and those are some interesting pictures and interesting comments.

  13. 13 Polaris 30 October, 2006 at 2:00 pm

Coincidence. I was behind the great firewall of China last weekend. I got to my blog using an X-Window application to log on to my machine in the US. Here is the post.

  14. 14 Polaris 30 October, 2006 at 2:07 pm

One more thing: I’d like to ask if anyone has posted to their blog from China using a mobile phone. Just curious to know whether the censorship extends to that realm as well.

The last time I visited China, my friend found 3 pages missing from all copies of the Economist at the Beijing airport. It seemed strange until we found out that it was routine.

And I am bummed by the fact that I carelessly misspelt “coincidence” in the previous comment 😉  (Fixed.  We know what it’s like to be occasionally careless.  –ed.)

  15. 15 Danielle 30 October, 2006 at 4:23 pm

My friend visited china not long ago.. she said that the censorship was very different from life in the US… she said she had trouble getting to some USA hosted websites from her mobile phone while in china. im not sure if it was her crappy cell phone reception or some censoring.

You doing homework and Lily drinking coffee has ” for general patronage” stamped all over. And it gets odd when taken together with all the pleas of “me! me! me!” Hahaha/

Please do not mistake this as a request to be featured. I’m just passing by. I was just looking for sites to amuse myself with before i say hello to the sandman. Your site’s been of help. =)

    Check out http://nexusnovel.wordpress.com

It has a lot of cool content that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. You guys should feature this site. I was looking for info on Quetzalcoatl for a paper and found a superb article on him.
